What is Bush thinking?
I’ve been leary about Bush’s decisions (or lack of decisions) when it comes to illegal immigrants. Now that he doesn’t need the conservative right to stay where he is, does that mean it’ll get worse?
La Shawn Barber has an informative post on Bush’s nominee for Attorney General. Ought we have, “a card-carrying member of a group that wants to stop enforcement of United States immigration law,” put in charge of actually enforcing the law?

Our Declaration of Independance says “we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights… life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” However, under our Constitutional law, these “rights” are only granted to US citizens. Is this what God meant? If a Mexican or Haitian is denied these rights, why shouldn’t they come here? In the Bible, laws that thwarted God’s will were justifiably broken (Daniel, Moses, Paul). If some US law prevents me from providing for my family and fulfilling my God-given potential, why not break it and sneak into the US?

I think people should be able to immigrate. I love that about America, but they should do it legally.

I know a few folks who have immigrated to the United States, and they did it the legal way. Most of them are offended that people can come here illegaly and skip the naturalization process…

It’s virtually impossible for a poor person in Latin America to legally immigrate to the US. You have to have a close relative here already or some sort of world-class talent or a job already lined up. Why do we get so upset about illegal immigration but not illegal domestic violence or anything else. It’s because of the threat to our money or culture or something else Christians should value less than justice.

If you want justice, work to change the laws, don’t advocate breaking them. The laws could certainly be improved, especially where guest workers are concerned. Our president, however, wants to let illegals off the hook and reward them for having broken the law. That is not justice.
I am not aware of any Christian or secular organizations fighting for the government to ignore domestic violence and not prosecute offenders.
