Alaska’s Ugly Building Contest

Alaska has been struggling to come to a concensus about whether or not to move the capital to a more easily accessible place than Juneau. In Juneau’s latest effort to keep the capital, they have held the Capitol Building Design Contest. I’m confused because usually if you want to keep something, you don’t hire people to make it ugly.

There are four finalists:

I used to think moving the capital would be a waste of money, but now that I see what the alternatives are, I think it’s time for it to go. Any city that would put its legislature in those buildings has lost its mind and ought to lose its right to host the capital.
